The DfE Climate Change and Sustainability Strategy (CCS strategy) calls on schools to work together to bring nature back into school grounds. SOS-UK’s Wilding Schools project will support schools to develop a plan to restore 30% of their school grounds for nature by 2030. Pupils will have access to nature mapping tools that are being created by the Natural History Museum, and access to expertise from local partners like the Wildlife Trusts. They will be supported to complete nature surveys, identify target species for recovery in their area and finally implement their own ‘wilding plan’. The programme is free and there is funding available to support the practical implementation of school wilding plans such as trees, hedges, wildflowers, bird boxes and wildlife ponds.
