Whole school culture, whole curriculum approach

Responding to climate change demands a transformation in every aspect of our lives including lifestyle,
education and work. Effective climate education takes a strategic, whole school, whole curriculum
approach and is transformative because it leads to societal change. A collaboration between Leeds Trinity University and the Teacher Development Trust called ‘Sustainability and Climate Change Education: Creating the Foundations for Effective Implementation’ found that effective climate education is based on foregrounding climate justice, developing a whole school culture, a strategic whole curriculum approach, engagement with unfamiliar pedagogical approaches and professional development.
